PART ONE

Paul in his
epistle to the Ephesians used the metaphoric representation of a drunk in
relation to the feeling of/filling with the Holy Spirit. He knew the efficacy
of being drunk till excess and what could be the resultant effect. He rather
advised us to be filled and drunk with the Holy Spirit. Hence, we will
enunciate briefly on two of the features of a drunk?
v His entire faculty is
controlled by an external force: Sir
Isaac Newton stated in one of his postulation on the laws of motion that “a body continues in its state of
rest…unless an external force is acted upon it”. Sometimes we dwell too
much within the natural confines that we get too accustomed with mediocrity and
forget that there is a greater lease of life beyond the physical. In fact, the
Christian life was never designed to be lived by human abilities; no wonder
Jesus instructed the apostles to tarry at Jerusalem to be endued with power. (Acts:
1 v4-5). Even Jesus himself had to be baptized and filled with The Holy Ghost
before embarking on his divine assignment. (Matt: 3v16-17). We need that
‘external force’ (The Holy Ghost) to be able to operate beyond the mundane.
Paul elaborated this in Ephesians: 1 v 3 that “…we have been blessed with ALL
spiritual blessings in heavenly places…” Thus all things (positive and
negative) are basically controlled from the power house of the spirit; but we
soon play away this essence and settle for common and ordinary things.
v He is confident, fearless and
can attack any obstacle: Do
you know that a man under the influence of alcohol can literally kick his foot
against a stone thinking it to be a football. I once saw a drunk speaking back
at an electric pole; telling it to give way. Mark: 11 v 22-23 sheds more light
into this scenario; “Jesus answered, have
faith in God. I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘go, fall
into the sea.’ And if you have no doubts in your mind, and believe that what
you say will happen, God will do it for you”. (New Century Version). Taking
a closer look at Jesus’ statement and the drunk’s intended act, you will
realize that the power and ability to dare near-impossible situations lies
within the metaphysical enclave; which in our case comes through the power of
The Holy Spirit. No ordinary mind can physically attempt to relocate a mountain
into the sea, and the ability not to doubt lies in the regenerated mind.
Phillipians: 2 v 5 urges us to have the mind of Christ. This is the kind of mind
that can wholly yield to God, operate in total dominion, discover purpose and
trail the path of righteousness. In 1st
Corinthians:2 v 14, Paul through the Holy Ghost makes us to understand that
“the natural mind receives not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are
foolishness unto him…”
Between where you
were and where you are, there must be a breakthrough from your natural mind if
you really want to forge ahead. Between your starting point and finish point
lies the details and it will interest you that your natural mind cannot
accommodate the details. No wonder God did not bother telling us about the
details while He promised in Jeremiah: 29 v 11, to give us “an expected end.” It is an end-product of WORRY and ANXIETY that
makes us care so much about the ‘how’s’, ‘where’s’ and ‘why’s’.
Be not
intoxicated with the power behind the bottle; get high with the spirit behind
the bible.
